Exciting Week at FCC Moore

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
Exciting Week at FCC Moore! What an exciting week we had at FCC Moore this past week.  The week started with several of us visiting the home of Sherri and Mike Peters for Bible Journaling.  I want to thank Sherri for welcoming us each month into her scrap-booking shop for this time to reconnect with one another as we decorate our journaling Bibles, have an opportunity to visit and share a meal together, and pray for one another.  If you have the availability to join us on the first Tuesday of the month, but have not done so as of yet, I...

Pray, Pray, Pray

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
Over the course of the summer, several in the congregation have been participating in a summer study series on the subject of prayer.  I am grateful for each one who has taken time out of their schedule to participate, and it is my hope and prayer that each one’s prayer life has been enriched in some way as a result of learning some new things.  In my humble opinion, prayer is the most powerful tool we have in our spiritual toolbox.  I sometimes wonder, however, if it is sorely underused.  We may think of prayer as our going to God to...

“The Power Of Prayer”

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
SUMMER STUDY SERIES ON PRAYERled by Pastor Shannon  Ephesians 6:18 says, “…praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.”  In other words…pray at all times and in all situations!  But how can we pray at all times?  For what sorts of things are we to pray?      I will cover some ancient (and more modern) prayer practices, praying the scriptures (which will include some hands-on activities to help you find prayers to pray in every situation), spiritual warfare prayers, praying for change...

The Power Of Prayer

Ephesians 6:18 says, “…praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.”  In other words…pray at all times and in all situations!  But how can we pray at all times?  For what sorts of things are we to pray?  It seems to me that the majority of the time, we Christians pray mostly for what I call “well-being prayers.”  We pray for health issues, comfort, job issues, and family issues.  All of these are great things for which to pray, but I wonder if sometimes we...

SLOW DOWN!!

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
"SLOW DOWN"  It is hard to believe that we are just two weeks away from the beginning of Lent.  For many of us, this is a time of deep spiritual introspection.  It is a season of the year in which we are encouraged to slow down, to think about what is most important in our life, to allow God to show us where we fall short, and to heal the areas of our life that are broken.  Jesus went to the cross on our behalf so we would experience freedom from the bondage that often exists in our life as a...

"It's Almost Christmas Time"

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
“It's Almost Christmas Time”  Can you believe that the Christmas season is almost here?  Where did this year go?  Soon, we will begin pulling our Christmas decorations out of the attic or storage in preparation for the coming season.  I try to do this as soon as Thanksgiving is over because then I have more time to enjoy the fruits of my labor.  Maybe some of you do the same thing.  Well, as you begin to pull out your decorations, would you please consider setting one ornament aside to share with the church this year?  Let me explain… One of the...

“EXTRAVAGANT GENEROSITY”

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
“EXTRAVAGANT GENEROSITY”  It is the time of year that we begin thinking about our Christian stewardship.  Now, I realize that this is a very unpopular topic in most churches because, let’s face it…none of us really like talking about financial giving.  So this year, instead of completely focusing on the numbers and trying to figure out how it might fit into your budget; I invite you to think about what this church means to you and your family.  Have the various ministries, experiences you have had, and people you have met in this congregation impacted your life or the lives...

Welcome at the Table

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
“Welcome at the Table”  This past Sunday, we celebrated World Communion Sunday together as a church family.  Of course, we were not alone; people from all corners of the world gathered around the Table of the Lord in their own areas. People with all sorts of experiences.  People who have hardly anything to call their own, and people who have more than they can manage.  People who are rule-followers as well as those who have broken the rules a few times and have suffered the consequences of their actions.  People with various colors of skins, some with body art and...

"Fall is Here"

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
“Fall is Here!!”  I am sure you have noticed that we are gearing up for a busy fall season here at First Christian Church.  LOGOS is in full swing, and the children (and adults!) are having a blast each Wednesday night.  The men and women are having a great time of fellowship and study at their monthly CMF, CWF, RCF, and the YaYa Sisters Gatherings.  FCC Family is planning a night of fun for our Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday, October 31st  in addition to their monthly gatherings.  Our outreach ministry team is about to start their winter clothing...

The Joys of Ministry

Posted by on in Pastor's Blog
The Joys of Ministry  There are many reasons why I feel so blessed to be a minister.  For example, I love to preach.  I love the entire process.  I love to pray and ask God’s guidance with regards to what to preach.  I love to read and study in preparation for the sermon.  I love the writing process.  I never know what direction God will take me until it is finished.  I love reading back over the sermon on Sunday morning after it has had some time to “gel” in my mind.  God often shows me a little different way...
