The Joys of Ministry
There are many reasons why I feel so blessed to be a minister.  For example, I love to preach.  I love the entire process.  I love to pray and ask God’s guidance with regards to what to preach.  I love to read and study in preparation for the sermon.  I love the writing process.  I never know what direction God will take me until it is finished.  I love reading back over the sermon on Sunday morning after it has had some time to “gel” in my mind.  God often shows me a little different way to say things or He gives me another thought to consider and share.  Even though I often feel a little nervous right before delivering the message, I feel God’s presence and it makes it all worth it.
Of course there are other reasons why I love being a minister.  I love the connection I feel to each of you.  I love getting to know you as you share your stories with me.  I love to laugh with you as we work together on various projects and events.  I love the bond we all have as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Lastly, another joy in ministry is being able to stand beside you and pray for you as you go through times of transition and stress; times such as illness, surgeries, the birth of babies, and the death of a loved one.  I had the opportunity this week to meet with two members of the church family to pray for them before they went in for surgery.  It was a joy to get to reassure them that God had already gone ahead of the surgery and prepared the operating room, the minds and hands of the medical staff providing their care, their bodies, and God was already in the recovery process as well.  Being there for each of you when you are going through major events in your life is one of the greatest blessings a minister can experience.  I want to reassure you that the events in your life are important to me just as they are to God.  I want to be there for you during those times.  Often, I hear people say, “Oh you are so busy, so I didn’t want to bother you with what is going on in my life or health.”  Being there for you is extremely important to me as your pastor.  Providing pastoral care is a joy of ministry, so please don’t hesitate to let me know if you are going to have surgery, or you are in the hospital, or you are going through a difficult time.  I am here for you!!  Please feel free to call me day or night.  My cell is 469-766-3851.
Each of you are a joy to serve.  Blessings to you all!!
